Read this excerpt from The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum, and then answer the question that follows. When Dorothy was left alone

she began to feel hungry. So she went to the cupboard and cut herself some bread, which she spread with butter. She gave some to Toto, and taking a pail from the shelf she carried it down to the little brook and filled it with clear, sparkling water. Toto ran over to the trees and began to bark at the birds sitting there. Dorothy went to get him, and saw such delicious fruit hanging from the branches that she gathered some of it, finding it just what she wanted to help out her breakfast. Then she went back to the house, and having helped herself and Toto to a good drink of the cool, clear water, she set about making ready for the journey to the City of Emeralds. What point of view is used in the excerpt?

The point of view that is used in the excerpt The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum is a third person. Third person point of view uses pronouns such as he, she, it or the name of the person. I would like to highlight the wprds that makes it a third person point of view.

When Dorothy was left alone she began to feel hungry. So she went to the cupboard and cut herself some bread, which she spread with butter. She gave some to Toto, and taking a pail from the shelf she carried it down to the little brook and filled it with clear, sparkling water.

So form the sentences that I chose above, the pronouns that were used are Dorothy, she and Toto.

Which type of punctuation signals the reader that the information is a direct quotation?
tamaranim1 [39]

The type of punctuation that signal the reader that the information is a direct quotation is QUOTATION MARKS.

In English language, quotation marks are normally used to indicate that a particular set of words have been lifted from another source, word for word. This is usually done when a writer does not want to alter a particular sentence that is found at a source. The quotation marks show that the quoted words are original words of another writer.
