x² - 10x + 25 can be factored to (x - 5)(x - 5). If 12 = x, substitute 12 for x.

(12 - 5)(12 - 5) which equals (7)(7) or 49. You could also plug in 12 for x in the original equation, so 12² - (10)(12) + 25 → 144 - 120 + 25 → 49. The length and width is 49in²

Answer:

7 inches by 7 inches

Step-by-step explanation:

x^2 -10x+25

Factor

What 2 numbers multiply to 25 and add to -10

-5*-5 = 25

-5+-5 = 10

(x-5) (x-5)

The dimensions are (x-5) by (x-5)

Substitute x=12 into the equation

(12-5) by (12-5)

7 by 7

The length is 7 and the width is 7

The function f is defined by f(x) x2 -6x +21. What are the solutions of f(x) 0? Show your work.
Xelga [282]

f(x)= x^2 -6x +21

0 =x^2-6x+21

subtract 21 from each side to prepare for completing the square

-21 = x^2 -6x

completing the square (b/2)^2

(-6/2) ^ =3^2 = 9

add 9 to each side

-21 +9 = x^2 - 6x + 9

-21 +9 =(x-3) ^2

-12 = (x-3)^2

take the square root of each side

+- sqrt(-12) = x-3

add 3 to each side, take out the negative inside the square root

3 +- i sqrt(12)=x

simplify the square root  sqrt(12)= sqrt(4)sqrt(3) =2sqrt(3)

3 +- i 2sqrt (3) = x

Answer: 3+2isqrt(3)

            3-2isqrt(3)

What is an exponent? Because i am confused
ollegr [7]

An exponent is a number written above and to the right side of a value or number in math. The value or number is called the base, and the expression is read out as;

"Base raised to the power of exponent."

An example is given below;

10^3

In this example, 10 is the base and 3 is the EXPONENT.

The expression is now read out as,

"10 raised to the power of 3"

Note that even unknown values (such x as we commonly use in math) can also be an exponent or base. For example, we can have;

\begin{gathered} 10^x \\ OR \\ 2x^3 \end{gathered}

So basically, an exponent indicates the number of times a number is used to multiply itself.
