The New Deal was President Franklin D. Roosevelt's plan to help America escape the Great Depression of the 1930's. This New Deal program consisted of several different federal agencies that were supposed to help the American economy recover. This included several different agencies that employed American citizens like the Works Progress Administration, Conservation Civilian Corps, etc.

Even though the New Deal was a significant increase in the federal governments intervention in the economy, many liberal Democratic leaders felt that it did not do enough to help the poorest Americans. These individuals wanted more government employment and financial aid programs to help these citizens.
