<span>As far as I am concerned, the author of “The Cold Equations” most likely wants you to believe that Marilyn was supposed to get thrown overboard. She was threatened to be killed and this excerpt clearly shows the idea , so it will definitely help you:

“You mean it — you really mean it.” She sagged back against the wall, small and limp like a little rag doll, and all the protesting and disbelief gone. “You’re going to do it — you’re going to make me die?” “I’m sorry,” he said again. “You’ll never know how sorry I am. It has to be that way and no human in the universe can change it.”<span>

The answer is III: a question.

A thesis statement is a statement, usually located at the middle or end of the first or introductory paragraph of an essay or research paper. It is a condensed summary of the main claim, controlling idea, and topic that the text addresses. Through support, evidence, and arguments, the rest of the paper is dedicated to elaborate upon the thesis statement.

luda_lava [24]
In this poem, Pound is comparing "faces in the crowd" to petals that are laying against a tree branch.
This is exactly what he says in the poem - "petals on a wet, black bough." A bough is the main branch of a tree, so this is definitely the only appropriate answer in this case. He wants to say that people resemble these petals.
