I guess you want to find where the diver ended up.

Taking distance below the surface to be negative we have:-

-25.65 - 16.5 + 12.65

= -42.15 + 12.45

= -29.7 feet

That is 29.7 feet below the surface.

If you are trying to find where he is the answer is -29.7

Hope this helps!

A retail outlet offers a retention bonus for each shopping season an employee remains with the company. Samuel's starting pay is
miv72 [106K]

Answer:

Samuel's hourly rate after n seasons with the company is f(n)= 12.50 + 0.35*n.  After 18 seasons with the company, Samuel's hourly rate will be 18.8 $ /hr.

Step-by-step explanation:

You know that Samuel's starting pay is $12.50/hr and for each season Samuel remains with the company, he receives a $0.35/hr raise.

Samuel's hourly rate after n seasons at the company will then be:

f(n)= 12.50 + 0.35*n

To determine the hourly rate after 18 seasons, you must replace the value n with 18:

f(18)= 12.50 + 0.35*18

Solving you get:

f(18)= 12.50 + 6.3

f(18)= 18.8

<u><em>Samuel's hourly rate after n seasons with the company is f(n)= 12.50 + 0.35*n.  After 18 seasons with the company, Samuel's hourly rate will be 18.8 $ /hr. </em></u>

Which of the following is an extraneous solution of sqrt 4x + 41 = x+5
stiv31 [10]

Answer:

x=-8

Step-by-step explanation:

\sqrt{4x+41}=x+5

on squaring both sides

4x+41=(x+5)^2\\\\4x+41=x^2+10x+25\\\\x^2+6x-16=0\\\\x^2+8x-2x-16=0\\\\x(x+8)-2(x+8)=0\\\\(x-2)(x+8)=0

either x-2=0  or  x+8=0

either x=2 or x=-8

Putting x=2 in original equation, we get

\sqrt{4\times 2+41}=2+5

7=7 hence, it is not an extraneous solution

Putting x=-8 in original equation

\sqrt{4\times (-8)+41}=-8+5

i.e. 3=-3

Hence, x=-8 is an extraneous solution (since it doesn't satisfy the original equation)

What is negative 21/9 times negative 18/7
diamong [38]

Answer:

negative 21/9 times negative 18/7  is 6

Step-by-step explanation:

The phrase negative 21/9 times negative 18/7 can be written mathematically as

-\frac{21}{9} \times -\frac{18}{7}

Lets first convert the fractions into decimal values

-\frac{21}{9} = -2.33

-\frac{18}{7} =  -2.57

Now on simplyfying

=>-2.33 \times -2.57

=> 5.988

=>6 (rounding off)

We will get a positive value because the multiplicative law states that the product of two negative number is positive
