Answer:

150.72 square feet

Step-by-step explanation:

The height of the oil barrel is = 5 feet

The radius of the oil barrel is = 3 feet

We have to find the surface area of the barrel. Surface area means the outside part of something.

The surface area is given as:

(Circumference of circle times height or the circular area between bases) + (area of 2 circles i.e upper and lower bases)

SA=2\pi rh+2\pi r^{2}

Putting the values in formua;

SA=(2\times3.14\times3\times5)+(2\times3.14\times3^{2}

= 94.2+56.52=150.72 square feet

Hence, the surface area of a barrel is 150.72 square feet.

One barrel is equal to one cylinder. A cylinder consists of two faces which are circles and everything in between. The area of a circle is pi times radius squared. Using 3.14 as pi, multiply the square of the radius (9) by 3.14. You should get 28.26 . Multiply that because a cylinder consists of TWO circles as faces. That should be 56.52. To find the "wrap" or surface area of the space in between the circle, you need to find the circumference of the circle and multiply it by the height of the barrel (5ft). The circumference of a circle is pi (3.14) times diameter (6). The circumference of the barrel should be 18.84. Multiply that by the height and you should get 94.2. Now, take that number and add it to 56.52. The final answer would be 150.72
