A prey is an organism which is killed by another organism. A predator is one who kills other organism to obtain it as food.

The prey can be a secondary consumer (carnivore) which can consume primary consumer (herbivore) and consumed by a tertiary consumer. This way an organism can be both predator as well as prey.
