This French philosopher, critic, theorist whose full name was Paul-Michel Foucault dealt with the theories of social control and its relationship with power and knowledge. This control is exercised through societal institutions and sexuality (as homosexuality was often punishable) in his view was how members of a particular society defined not only the cultural power but also the political power.

Further explanation

Michel Foucault is one of the main post-structuralist figures, a famous intellectual, phenomenal, and influential. His works have inspired thinkers in various fields of science. One of the works that took him to a wider audience was the trilogy The History of Sexuality. He conducted research using historical genealogical methods. The difference with historians, Foucault is not only examining factual truth, but also the issue of hegemony of power that works behind the discourse of sexuality.

Foucault discloses sex discourse within the domain of authority which is increasingly being discussed in institutions. He highlighted sexual morality through religion especially Christian pastoral teachings in the 17th century on the basis of lust is the root of sin. Lust, starting from thoughts, words, desires, and practices concerning pleasure, the desire for sexuality must be recognized in confession, then received penance or forgiveness. All of that is related to human science and the importance of gaining knowledge about the subject.

there are political, economic and technical stimuli to discuss sex. Not the philosophers who do it because they are reluctant to talk about sex, but in medical science. Foucault sees the medical discourse about sex with scientific analysis tends to prevent its emergence. Furthermore, sex becomes a matter for the "police" that serves to strengthen the internal strength of the state. Sex of every citizen needs to be regulated by the state through a variety of useful and open discourse. Sex discourse since the 18th century has developed into the domain of education and forced the understanding of sex in children and adolescents, standardizing its content through expert speakers.
