African Reform Movements:

- Also known as the Civil Rights Movement, reform movements dedicated to the abolishing discrimination in the United States.

- Struggle to be free, achieve equality and rights.

- The North had many prominent African American abolitionists.

- Starts with African Americans, leads to women's rights movement, and Gay Rights Movement.

Asian Reform Movements:

- Reforms slowed in the 1870s. In 1869, the reformer Prince Gong was removed from power by Cixi after having one of her favorite eunuchs executed for corruption.

- Key reformers also died. Zeng Guofan died in 1872 and Wenxiang in 1876. Even the Emperor Tongzhi died in 1875.

- They sough to apply 'practical knowledge' from the West, whilst reaffirming the old Confucian system of government.

Latin American Reform Movements:

- Social reform movements made great headway in the 1930s.

- United states position towards Latin American independence; events and reasons for the emergence of the Monroe Doctrine.

- War of 1812 causes and impact on British North America and the United States.

- With independence from Spain, Britain wishes to take over Latin America starting with economic trade.

- British business involved itself with every aspect of Latin American economy except politics.

- WWI stalled British influence and WWI ended it.
