"Cien años de soledad" was published in 1967. It was written by Gabriel García Márquez, the most famous Colombian writer. He was a very important writer of Latin American literature and this novel is considered to be a masterpiece. It takes place in a fictional town called Macondo and it narrates the story of seven generations of the same family. García Márquez's style is called "realismo mágico" (magical realism), a style he shares with Chilean writer Isabel Allende and Brazilian writer Jorge Amado, among others.
