Kamala Markandaya was an Indian novelist and journalist who is mainly remembered for her book <em>Nectar in a Sieve</em>. However, she also published several short stories and novels. Markandaya was born in 1924 and died in 2004. During her lifetime, India experienced many changes. However, one of the most important ones was India's independence, which was achieved in 1947.
