area of the square : s × s ⇒ 3 × 3 = 9 in.

the figure in the left is a rectangle

and opposite sides of a rectangle are equal ... so , the side on the top is 3.1

∴ 6.1 - 3.1 = 3

so the top of the figure on the right is 3 ...

area of square = s×s

=3×3= 9 in.
