Answer: C) She is the only person who is late on the day of the lottery.

Even before we know who was selected in the lottery, the author sets Tessie Hutchinson apart by telling us that she arrived late. She claims to have forgotten what day it was. This is markedly different to the rest of the villagers, as the lottery is the most important institution of the community, and it is inconceivable that someone could have forgotten about it. This "freedom" of mind that allows her to forget about the lottery sets her apart from everyone else in the village.

Which quotation from Scene 1 best states one of the play's themes?
Novay_Z [31]

Answer:

The answer is C)

"Unnatural deeds/Do breed unnatural troubles." (lines 61-62)

Explanation:

Macbeth is the story of a nobleman from Scotland by name Macbeth who plots (with his wife) to eliminate their king (King Duncan) to fulfill their desire for Macbeth to be king.

The story also captures the repercussions that follow.

After the demise of Duncan and his family (save those that escaped) by Macbeth, Lady Macbeth becomes stricken with a heavy heart. Unable to sleep properly due to the guilt of how she and her husband ascended the throne, she starts sleepwalking while confessing indirectly to her evil deeds.

Between lines 30 and 50, the doctor observes this along with another lady. He understands that her mind is troubled. Between lines 50 and 55, the Doctor alludes to the fact that her problem is unnatural and that the cause is as a result of unnatural deeds.

It was unnatural for Macbeth to slay Duncan and his family just because of power. Unnaturally, Lady Macbeth also killed herself.

Cheers!

Which correctly describes a cause-and-effect relationship in this excerpt?
pochemuha

Black people in a little community on the other side of the Day Street Bridge had to walk across the bridge, about half a mile, to get to the bus. Mr. Nixon went down to the bus company to protest. He was always going down to the bus company to protest; sometimes he went by himself, sometimes he took someone with him. He himself did not ride the buses—he had his own car; but he was acting on behalf of the community. The bus company told him that as long as the people were willing to walk the half mile and then pay to ride the rest of the way downtown, they had no need to extend the bus line. Which correctly describes a cause-and-effect relationship in this excerpt?

Answer:

The answer is:

Cause: People had to walk across a bridge to catch the bus.

Effect: Mr. Nixon protested to the bus company.

Explanation:

A "cause-and-effect" relationship<u> </u><u>describes the connection between events/situations. It shows how one action/event leads to another action/event. </u>

A "cause" <u>refers to the action/event that led to another action/event.</u> This is the reason why the other action/event occurred.

An "effect"<u> refers to the action/event that happened as a result of the "cause."</u> This is the outcome of the taken action or the event that happened.

So, in the situation above. <em>Mr. Nixon protested to the bus company because the people had to walk across a bridge to catch the bus.</em> He wanted to let the bus company know on behalf of the community. He did this in order to cause a change.

Thus, this explains the answer.
