The Baby Boom was a period of American history after World War II. During these period, many couples had babies due to the improved economy of the country. It was also the time period during which suburban areas developed. These areas were mostly occupied by young families. The baby boom was significant because it meant that during the 1950s and 1960s, there was a large number of young people who were able to set trends, influence politics and develop a "youth culture" that had not been seen in previous decades.
