A departments policing style is the reflection of its culture and it affects other aspects of police work in that community. Political scientist James Q. Wilson conducted a study on the police departmental styles in 1968 and concluded that there three policing styles Watchmen, Legalistic and Service.  

In legalistic style officer acts like a soldier, they follow rules strictly and enforce all the laws, such policemen treat people equally whether they are "bad" or " good". Such officers go by the book.
