In act I, the soldiers care less about him and they think he is weak to battle due to his wife insisting he was a coward and that cowards never have power over their wives and instead do as what their wives tell them. Lady Macbeth forced Macbeth to become less of a coward by killing King Duncan; as Lady Macbeth was afraid of killing King Duncan-himself- as he looked identical to his father while asleep. So Macbeth was forced to do the deed to kill the king so he can be titled 'Thane of Cawdor.' The play goes that since Macbeth has successfully planned a murder attack on Duncan, Macbeth became greedy for more power and was more covetous to priced possessions- thanks to his wife convincing him to gain power by doing all the 'dirty work' intent murderous acts. Fast forward to Act V The soldiers were petrified and would anyway to please Macbeth- so Macbeth wouldn't end up killing them. Macbeth became full of himself, more greedy, was selfish towards others- even his wife, and remained a tyrant until his wife's unconscious that awoke his inner self..
