However, I advise you to read Murakami once you turn 18. It is wonderful. In this case, I recommend you life of Pi which is a movie and has also a novel. Magic realism is the genre that narrates a story that takes place in the real world adding fantastic or magic elements. You can use the life of pi characters representation in the form of animals, by their personal characteristics and status. Also, the way the protagonist programs himself to see them as animals to make the story less crude and that he does it like that to survive and not fall in despair.
