Answer:

What religious conflicts occurred as Europeans began settling in the Americas?

The European settlers in the New World thought Christianity was the one true faith, and that if you didn't believe in it you would go to hell. The First Nations were satisfied with their own spiritual beliefs and were not interested in changing. The conflicts began because the Europeans believing that First nations could not be trusted since the bible described any non-Christians as Heretic who was worshiped the devil.

What role did religion play in the European immigration to North America?

The main role religion had in European immigration to North America is that is worked as a catalyst because Europeans wanted to escape religious persecution.

How did Christianity spread in North America? How did different ideas and beliefs diffuse in society?

Christianity mostly spread through the use of missionaries, who employed often inhumane methods to force the First Nations to believe in Christ. Some Europeans still had their own unique customs and beliefs, some of which were popular enough that they diffused throughout North America.

How did the religion of the European immigrants influence the structure of their societies and communities?

The European settlers believed that religion was the glue that held their society together. Most colonies would put very strict laws into place to punish non-Christians and to prohibit non-Christian religious beliefs.

What are some of the reasons why some Christian denominations had more followers in particular areas of North America than other denominations?

Some denominations were less understanding of certain areas then others and some denominations were more akin to certain areas.

How did George Whitfield challenge the boundaries between religious groups in North America?

Whitfield believed that he could unite people with a simple message everyone could share. He believed that there was this transformation of the soul by the Holy Spirit and that it was possible to have an immediate connection between God and each person.

In looking at the religious history of the United States, what are some of the reasons why it has traditionally been a Christian country?

The United States (and North America in general) were predominantly Christian since the European powers started establishing colonies. Britain, France, and Spain were the main colonial powers and although they were believed in different variations of Christianity, they all believed in the bible. Therefore Christianity was forced upon North America.

How does the story of the European settlers mimic the Biblical story?

The story of the European settlers mimics the biblical story of the Israelites reaching the promised land in that they both believed that if they just came to this place of "milk and honey" they would be able to flourish, and truly enjoy life.
