The Compromise of 1850 was a set of five different bills that reduced the tension on a political disagreement between the states which owned slaves and those who didn't about who owned the area obtained during the Mexican-American War. One of the things that were mentioned by the Compromise of 1850 was that any runaway slave had to be returned to their owner Additionally, the slave trade was banned in DC (nation's capital).
