When Mattie and her mother attended Ogilvie´s tea party, Mattie was " forced" to use a nice dress in order to look nice to Edward because the purpose of their invitation was for her to get a husband. While her mother talked about  the coffee house and the grog shop with the house owner, she talked about the increasing number of deaths.
