Let us assume we are using TI-84 model of a calculator, which I have.
Step 1: Plot the points and determine the type of function.
Enter the x-values and y-values into lists as follows:
a. Press Stat, and then press Enter to select Edit.
b. Clear any data already in the lists by using the arrows to the heading of the column to highlight L1 and hit Clear, then Enter. Repeat for L2.
c. Enter the x-values into L1 and the y-values into L2.
Graph the points using the calculator as follows:
a. Stat Plot on.
b. 2nd Stat Plot, Enter, then select On
c. set x and y values appropriately from the window button.
Press y =, then arrow up to highlight Plot1, and press Graph.
This will give you the type of graph or function.
Step 2: Find regression equation.
a. Press Stat, then right-arrow to Calc.
b. select one of the following:
#4: LinReg (ax + b). If the function is linear
#5: QuadReg. For quadratic function.
#0: ExpReg. For exponential function.
