The correct answer is A) the lines between the state and federal powers blurred as the federal government played a larger role in funding and directing state governments.

The other options of the question were B) the federal government couldn't afford to help states pay for services, so states came away with even more power over social programs. C) state and federal governments came into conflict over who should pay for efforts to address crises. D) the lines between the state and federal powers became more distinct as states came up with unique ways to address the crises.

The statement that best describes how federalism changed as a result of the economic crisis of the 1930s is "the lines between the state and federal powers blurred as the federal government played a larger role in funding and directing state governments."

This situation had to be addressed and that is why US President Franklin D. Roosevelt created a series of programs under the New Deal to try to help the American people during the harsh economic years of the Great Depression. We are referring to the Civil Works Administration,  the Social Security Administration, the Farm Security Administration. among others.
