Theme is the overall moral a story has. You can usually find the theme by looking back and thinking about the message of what you just read .

A reader can discover theme by analyzing the contents of the piece, and see what the morals, motifs, or even what the author is trying to convey to the reader. If the work is a piece of fiction with characters in it, one can analyze what they say or do to determine the overall message they are trying to tell.
