Set up a ratio. 1 1/8 gallons is to 13 1/2 miles as 1 gallon is to x miles.

x= unknown number of miles

(1 1/8) / (13 1/2)= 1 / x
cross multiply top left by bottom right and bottom left by top right

1 1/8 * x= 13 1/2 * 1

1 1/8x= 13 1/2
convert each mixed number to improper fractions

9/8x= 27/2
divide both sides by 9/8

x= 27/2 ÷ 9/8
to divide fractions, multiply by the reciprocal/inverse of 9/8

x= 27/2 * 8/9
multiply numerators together; multiply denominators together

x= (27*8)/(2*9)

x= 216/18

x= 12 miles

ANSWER: A car can travel 12 miles for each 1 gallon of gas.

Hope this helps! :)

A bicycle wheel has a diameter of 24inches. <br> what is the area of the wheel?
goldfiish [28.3K]

Answer:

\large\boxed{A=144\pi\ in^2\approx452.16\ in^2}

Step-by-step explanation:

A diameter is two times longer than a radius. Therefore, if the diameter

d = 24in, then the radius r = (24in) : 2 = 12in.

The formula of an area of a circle:

A=\pi r^2

Substitute:

A=\pi(12)^2=144\pi\ in^2

\pi\approx3.14

Then

A\approx(144)(3.14)=452.16\ in^2

Estimate the solution to the system of equations.
Leona [35]

Answer:

\sf C)  \  x = -1\dfrac{2}{5}  , \  y =  \ 1\dfrac{3}{5}

Given equations:

  • a) -3x + 3y = 9
  • b) 2x - 7y = -14

<u>Make x the subject in equation 1</u>:

  • -3x + 3y = 9
  • -3x = 9 - 3y
  • x = y - 3

<u>Substitute this into equation 2</u>:

2(y - 3) - 7y = -14

2y - 7y = -14 + 6

-5y = -8

  y = -8/-5

  y = 1.6

Then x = y - 3

           = 1.6 - 3

           = -1.4

Solution: (x, y) ⇒ (-1.4, 1.6)

Which function has an inverse that is a function?
fredd [130]

Answer:

m(x)

Step-by-step explanation:

they would have to pass the horizontal line test and the vertical line test for both the origional and the inverse.

b(x) does not pass the horizontal line test in any of the y values over 3

d(x) does not pass the horizontal line test for y=-9

p(x) does not pass the horizontal line test for positive y values

and m(x) has only one corresponding x value for every y value
