A psychological barrier refers to ideas, beliefs or features that stop individuals from accomplishing a goal or completing some task. These barriers are in the mind of the individual, and therefore in most cases, they can overcome.
In the case of Mickey, the psychological barrier he has encountered is resistance because his students resist or reject the idea of learning to write, and instead they prefer playing basketball, this likely occurs because writing seems difficult to them or they are afraid of not understanding. Also, this does not imply students do not have the knowledge, ability to learn or maturity to do this but they resist to learn or do something different.
