During his reign, the empire saw important expansion. This included the annexing of the cities of Djenne and Timbuktu. Even though the co-existence of religions was not well seen at the time, he did rule over territories that practiced different beliefs and did not impose a certain belief over others.

However, his reign did not expand to Eastern Africa, where the Nile River is located.
