The Reconquista (Reconquest) was a series of campaigns by Spanish Christian states to recapture territory from the Muslims (also called the Moors).
The Muslims occupied most of the Spanish territory on the Iberian Peninsula in the early 8th century.
The beginning of the Reconquista is the battle of Covadonga ( 718 ), where the Christian Asturians opposed the Moores under the rule of King Pelayo. It finished with the battle of Granada in 1492. After that, the expulsion of people of Jewish and Moorish decent started.
