work:
you simply divide 3,486 by 2
if you divide each number by two (right to left)
6 / 2 = 3
8 / 2 = 4
4 / 2 = 2
3 / 2 = 1.5
since there is a decimal in this, multiply it by 10 and add it to the number before. this number will go on the right side of the total
1.5 * 10 =15
15 + 2 = 17
17 4 3 are the final numbers in order. put them together and you have 1743
