A shipwreck lands Viola on the shores of Illyria, a new and strange place for her. Viola is conscious of the fact that it would be difficult for her to survive as a single woman in a strange land. She would need to earn a living, and there was no job she could take up without calling undue attention to herself. In order to safeguard her chastity and be able to look out for herself, she figures that she will have to disguise herself as a boy. This disguise would enable her to enjoy more freedom and more opportunities. She learns about the lovesick Duke Orsino and Countess Olivia, who has gone into self-imposed seclusion to mourn the loss of her brother. Viola, disguised as a young man, decides to take up the job of a page in Orsino’s household.

Analyze the quote: “There is an ecstasy…and it comes as a complete forgetfulness that one is alive.”
Valentin [98]

Answer:

This is a quote by Jack London, from the third chapter (The Dominant Primordial Beast) of his book "The call of the wild." The quote is used to describe when the team spots a rabbit one night, fifty dogs from the Northwest Police camp go on to hunt it, with Buck leading the pack.

Explanation:

The ecstasy that describes, refers to the moment when one feels most alive, which, ironically, makes us forget about being alive, as we just find ourselves at the moment, unaware of anything else. London describes this feeling as what an artist might feel while making a passionate work of art, or what a soldier feels in the heat of battle. And definitely, what Buck felt at that moment, leading the pack in a race influenced by a primal instinct he thought forgotten.

Shakespeare has Friar Lawrence leave Juliet in the tomb because his entrance and exit does not matter to the story.
Alex73 [517]

Answer:

False

Explanation:

Friar Lawrence is a character from the tragedy Romeo and Juliet written by William Shakespeare. He is a cleric who helps Romeo and Juliet throughout the play - he helps them meet, marries them, and wants to help them reunite after Romeo's banishment. He is the one who gives the sleeping potion to Juliet, tricking everyone into thinking that she died. He wants her to leave the tomb with him so that he can hide her in a nunnery, but she refuses to leave after realizing that Romeo is dead. After this, he runs, leaving her alone in the tomb.

Every character's actions matter, including their entrance and exit. There is no such thing as meaningless actions, especially in tragedies such as this one. Laurence is afraid of the consequences he would face if someone found out about him faking Juliet's death. He hears the authorities approaching and runs. Juliet is left alone and kills herself.
