Both texting without looking or staring directly at the phones massively reduce the attention that the driver's brain put on the road.

Study shows that on average, any phones related activities reduce approximately around 37% of driver's attention from the road. Since accidents tend to occurs on split seconds, both drivers have a high chance in having an accident.
