Answer:

A:I love winter, but it's currently bumming me out. I'm sick of the endless cold, my dry skin, the fact that I can't just let my hair gracefully air dry if I have to go anywhere within two hours after I've showered. Winter can bring a whole bunch of really fun and exciting things (mainly Christmas and the first snow fall) but it's also a bit of a drag. Sure, you can snuggle up with a cup of tea and read, or read some spine chilling stories in chilly weather, or even just read something to get through the winter blues (notice how all of my solutions are about reading?), but honestly, sometimes the best thing to do is go to bed praying that when you wake up, the temperature outside will be warmer than below freezing.

B:Horatius Cocles, Roman hero traditionally of the late 6th century BC but perhaps legendary, who first with two companions and finally alone defended the Sublician bridge (in Rome) against Lars Porsena and the entire Etruscan army, thereby giving the Romans time to cut down the bridge. He then threw himself into the Tiber to swim to the other shore. Versions differ as to whether he reached safety or was drowned. The myth possibly arose in explanation of an ancient statue of a crippled one-eyed man (cocles means “one-eyed”) in the nearby Temple of Vulcan. The ancients claimed this represented the wounded Cocles, but it may be a statue of the god Vulcan, who was both lame and traditionally associated with the Cyclops (One-Eyed). The story is first mentioned by the 2nd-century-BC Greek historian Polybius

C:In Māori mythology the primal couple Rangi and Papa (or Ranginui and Papatūānuku) appear in a creation myth explaining the origin of the world (though there are many different versions). In some South Island dialects, Rangi is called Raki or Rakinui.

Write an argumentative essay for or against using public money to maintain national landmarks, such as the gateway Arch in St. L
Luba_88 [7]

Answer:

As travelers fly into the spirit of the saint louis airport, there are greeted by the huge gleaming Gateway Arch facing the west. National landmarks are areas of great beauty giving opportunity for open-air, established so that national beauty can be preserved and enhanced. National landmarks have such positive influences on peoples lives so i think using public money to maintain national landmarks is good. Public money should be spent on keeping up national parks. because they are part of our country's history and something to admire. i think the money should be spent because if we didn't use the the National landmarks will crumble and fall.

How is William Shakespeare important to maya Angelou's memoir
igor_vitrenko [27]
<span>It could be stated that William Shakespeare was important to Maya Angelou's memoir because he played a significant role in her confidence and beginning in the world of fantasy and escape. She said that he was her “first love” and she felt so related and connected to him and she even said in an interview that Shakespeare might  “have been a black girls. how else could he know exactly how she (I) felt?”</span>

HELP!!!
Sever21 [200]

Answer:

In those days the Church <u>was not merely a thermometer</u> that recorded the ideas and principles of popular opinion; <u>it was a thermostat</u> that transformed the mores of society.

Explanation:

Type of figurative language: It is a metaphor.

Meaning of figurative language: We call a metaphor when the author uses objects to translate the real signification of other word. In this case the author is trying to translate the function of the Church into the function of a thermostat, and avoiding the function of a thermometer.

Effect on tone and mood: It is used both in poetry and in explanatory texts to better understand a feeling, function or comparison in words.

Effect on audience: It makes the public understand in a better way the force that the author really wants to communicate in his words. Also it gives a sense of beauty in the words.
