1. A website sells sweaters. The amount of sales p(c) varies directly with the number of customers c. Ten customers bought a tot

al of $455 worth of sweaters.
Which equation can be used to find the sales for c customers?

A. P(c) = 45.5c
B. P(c) = 455c
C. P(c) = 4550/c
D. P(c) = 455/c

2. The time it takes to wash all the windows on a large building W(x) varies inversely with the number of workers assigned to the job x. It takes 6 hours to complete the job when 4 workers are assigned to it.

Which equation can be used to find the time to complete the job when x workers are assigned to it?

A. W(x) = 1.5x
B. W(x) = 24x

Answer: 1. A) P(c) = 45.5c

2. B) W(x) = 24x

Step-by-step explanation:

1) If the amount of sales p(c) varies directly with the number of customers c, mathematically we have;

p(c) = kc where k is the constant of proportionality

Since ten customers bought a total of $455 worth of sweaters,

p(c) = $455 and c = 10

Substituting this values in the equation we have to get k

$455= 10k

k = $455/10

k = $45.5... (1)

To find the sales p(c) for c customers, we substitute the value of k in the formula

p(c) = kc

p(c) = $44.5c (A)

b) If the time it takes to wash all the windows on a large building W(x) varies inversely with the number of workers assigned to the job x, we will have,

W(x) = k/x (since it is inverse)

If it takes 6 hours to complete the job when 4 workers are assigned to it, the equation becomes;

6= k/4

k = 24... (1)

The equation that can be used to find the time to complete the job when x workers are assigned to it will be;

W(x) = kx

Since k = 24, we will substitute it in the formula to have;

W(x) = 24x which is the required equation (B)

Triangle A″B″C″ is formed by a reflection over x = 1 and dilation by a scale factor of 2 from the origin. Which equation shows t
andrew-mc [135]

Answer:

segment AB over segment A double prime B double prime = the square root of 13 over 2 times the square root of 13

Step-by-step explanation:

Triangle ABC has vertices at points A(-3,3), B(1,-3) and C(-3,-3).

1. Reflection over x = 1 maps vertices A, B and C as follows

  • A(-3,3)→A'(5,3);
  • B(1,-3)→B'(1,3);
  • C(-3,-3)→C'(5,-3).

2. Dilation by a scale factor of 2 from the origin has the rule

(x,y)→(2x,2y)

So,

  • A'(5,3)→A''(10,6);
  • B'(1,3)→B''(2,6);
  • C'(5,-3)→C''(10,-6)

See attached diagram for details

Note that

A''B''=2AB\\ \\A''C''=2AC\\ \\B''C''=2BC,\\ \\AB=\sqrt{(-3-1)^2+(3-(-3))^2}=\sqrt{16+36}=\sqrt{52}=2\sqrt{13}

so

\dfrac{AB}{A''B''}=\dfrac{2\sqrt{13}}{2\cdot 2\sqrt{13}}=\dfrac{\sqrt{13}}{2\sqrt{13}}

Hilda was simplifying some numerical expressions and made each of the following sequences of calculations. Name the mathematical
Galina-37 [17]

Answer:

Problem 1:

5 · (−4/3) · (2/5)

= (−4/3) · 5 · (2/5)   <em>Conmutative Property of Multiplication</em>

= (−4/3) · (5 · (2/5))  <em>Associative Property of Multiplication</em>

= (−4/3) · (2/1) = −8/3 = −2*2/3<em> Multiplied fractions and extracted common factor</em>

Problem 2:

17 + 29 + 3+ 1

= 17 + 3 + 29 + 1  <em>Conmutative Property of Addition</em>

= (17 + 3) + (29 + 1)  <em>Associative Property of Addition</em>

= 20 + 30 Added groups

= 50 Added terms

Step-by-step explanation:

<u>For the Problem 1:</u>

In the first step, Hilda applied the <em>Conmutative Property of Multiplication</em>, because she changed the order of the numbers in the product

In the second step, she applied the <em>Associative Property of Multiplication, </em>because she agrouped the product of 5 and<em> </em>2/5 to perform it sepparately

In the third step, she calculated<em> the product of the fractions</em> -4/3 and 2/1, then she extracted 2 as a <em>common factor</em> to express the fraction as -2*2/3

<u>For the Problem 2:</u>

In the first step, Hilda applied the <em>Conmutative Property of Addition, </em>because she changed the order of the numbers in the sum

In the second step, she applied the<em> Associative Property of Addition, </em>because she associated the addition of 17 and 3 and the addition of 29 and 1, to calculate them in groups.

Answer:

a) 34mi

b) 10mi

c) 44mi

d) by Calculating the amount of miles it would take John to go to school plus the amount of miles it would take Sara to go to school. Then add the sum of the amount of miles it took for both to go to school.

Step-by-step explanation:

a) explanation:

a^{2} +b^2=c^2

16^2+30^2=c^2

256 + 900 = c^2

c^2=1156

\sqrt{1156}=34mi

b) explanation:

a^{2} +b^2=c^2

6^2+8^2=c^2

36+64=c^2

c^2=100

\sqrt{100} =10mi

c) explanation: we already have all the data from John's house to Sara's House.

John's House to Sara's House = John's House to School + Sara's House to School.

Sara's House to School (Question #1) = 34mi

John's House to School (Question #2) = 10mi

34(mi) + 10(mi) = 44(mi)

d) explanation: explanation is on the answer
