Grendel is a humanoid, ogre or troll monster, a giant goblin, which has lived since the past. Grendels usually come out of their nests at night and kill their prey when they are asleep. Grendel likes to kill and eat human flesh and drink their blood. Grendel continues to kill and prey on the people of Hrothgar for twelve years.

The hero Beowulf then fights Grendel without any weapons. Beowulf managed to injure Grendel by tearing Grendel's arm from his shoulder. Grendel then runs off to his nest and dies there.

In the end, Beowulf managed to kill Grendel's mother with a sword found by a giant. Beowulf decapitated Grendel's mother.
