Answer:

y=-4,x=4

Step-by-step explanation:

I'm going to reference to each equation as:

Equation 1:

-8x - 2y = -24

Equation 2:

-4x + 8y = -48

First, we need to get equal amounts of x's or y's in both equations, I am going to double equation 2, so then both equations will have an equal amount of x's.

(1) -8x - 2y = -24

(2) -8x+16y=-96

Now our both equations have the same amount of a term, we can subtract these equations from other in order to cancel out that term, leaving us with one unknown. We do this as we are able to solve equations with just one unknown.

-8x-2y-(-8x+16y)=-24-(-96) - simplify

-8x+8x-2y-16y=-24+96 - simplify

-18y=72 - solve for y

y=-4

Now we have y, we can substitute it back into one of our equations to find x

-8x - 2y = -24 - substitute in y = -4

-8x+8=-24 - rearrange

-8x=-32 - solve for x

x=4

2. How fast would a 0.25 kg football have to be traveling to have the same momentum as a 0.05 kg bullet travelling 500 m/s?
Fantom [35]
Their momentum would be equal. so,
m1v1 = m2v2
0.25 * v1 = 0.05 * 500
v1 = 25 / 0.25
v1 = 100 m/s

In short, Your Answer would be 100 m/s

Hope this helps!

Look at the graph of the equation y = 5x. Which statement is true?
Ugo [173]

Answer:

B).  As x increases by 1,  y increases by 5.

Step-by-step explanation:

When x = 1, y = 5

when x = 2, y = 10

when x = 3, y = 15.

So it is B

As x increases by 1,  y increases by 5.
