Explicit formula a_{n} =8n+15

Recursive formula \left \{ {{a_{1} =23} \atop {a_{n}=a_{n-1}+8 }} \right.

To solve this problem we have to use an arithmetic sequence. The cost of renting a kayak for 1 hour is $23, each additional hour is $8 more. So, the first element of the secuence will be 23 for one hour, then each addittional hour will be 23 + 8, making the secuence:

{23, 31, 39, 47, 55,.....,n}

Writing a recursive formula of the form a_{n} =a_{n-1} +d where a_{n} is the nth term, n the number of terms, and d the common difference in the secuence.

The common difference of the secuence {23, 31, 39, 47, 55,.....,n}. So, the first term is a_{1} =23, and the common diffenece is d = 8 which is the difference between each term.

\left \{ {{a_{1} =23} \atop {a_{n} =a_{n-1}+8 }} \right.

Writing a explicit formula of the form a_{n} =a_{1} +d(n-1) where where a_{n} is the nth term, n the number of terms, a_{1} the first term of the secuence, and d the common difference in the secuence.

With a_{1}=23, and d = 8:

a_{n} =23+8(n-1)

a_{n} =23+8n-8

a_{n} =8n+15

Help please. I'm stuck
jok3333 [9.3K]

Answer:

The numbers are 65, 67, and 69

Step-by-step explanation:

Hi there!

We need to find 3 consecutive odd integers.

Consecutive numbers are numbers that follow each other (ex. 1, 2, 3, 4)

We're given that 5 times the first number + 4 times the second + 3 times the third = 800

Let's make the first number x

Since the second number is consecutive to the first and odd, it will be x+2 (Why? Well, let's say x is 5. In that case, x+1=6, which is even. However, x+2=7)

Therefore, the third number is x+4 (once again, if x is 5, x+3=8, but x+4=9)

5 times the first number is 5x

4 times the second is 4(x+2)

3 times the third is 3(x+4)

And of course, that equals 800

As an equation, it'll be:

5x+4(x+2)+3(x+4)=800

open the parenthesis

5x+4x+8+3x+12=800

combine like terms

12x+20=800

Subtract 20 from both sides

12x=780

Divide by 12 on both sides

x=65

The first number is x, so the first number is <u>65</u>

The second number is x+2, or 65+2=<u>67</u>

The third number is x+4, or 65+4=<u>69</u>

Hope this helps!

The cash price of a television set is $10 000.00 .A woman buys the television set on hire purchase by making a 20% down payment
umka21 [38]

The amount that'll be saved if the television was bought for cash is $1600.

Cash price of television = $10000

Amount paid through hire purchase will be:

= (20% × $10000) + ($800 × 12)

= (0.2 × $10000) + $9600.

= $2000 + $9600.

= $11600

The amount that could have been saved will be:

= $11600 - $10000.

= $1600

PLZ I REALLY NEED HELP 15 POINTS
Len [333]

To find the X intercept, replace y with 0 and solve for x:

9x + 21(0) = 16

9x = 16

x = 16/9

To find the Y intercept, replace x with 0 and solve for y:

9(0) + 21y = 16

21y = 16

y = 16/21

X-intercept is 16/9

y intercept is 16/21
