Continental Army was the army formed at the beginning of the American Revolutionary War by the colonies that became the United States of America. Established by a resolution of the Continental Congress - on June 14, 1775 - the army had been created to coordinate the military efforts of the Thirteen Colonies and their struggle against the rule of Great Britain. He was associated with local militias and other troops that remained under state control. George Washington was his commander-in-chief throughout the war.

The three defects of this army were: a) lack of organization of militias that were not organized in advance and therefore had weak and poorly formed strategies. b) Lack of ammunition because the British government limited the sale and access of arms to American territory and this made it very difficult to supply ammunition from the army. c) The militias were untrained, they had no experiences in warfare and this provoked an even greater disorganization.
