What divides the Rohingya from the rest of the population of Myanmar?
g100num [7]
Violence broke out in northern Rakhine state on 25 August, when militants attacked government forces. In response, security forces supported by Buddhist militia launched a “clearance operation” that has killed at least 1,000 people and forced more than 300,000 to flee their homes. The UN’s top human rights official said on 11 September that the military’s response was “clearly disproportionate” to insurgent attacks and warned that Myanmar’s treatment of its Rohingya minority appears to be a “textbook example” of ethnic cleansing.

What percentage of the earths volcanoes are shield volcanoes?
WARRIOR [948]

There are 48 shield volcanoes on Earth (active & inactive, excluding the extinct ones). Out of approximately 1,500 volcanoes in total on the planet, shield volcanoes represent about 3%.

Shield volcanoes are composed for the most part of basalt, which is fluid lava. Their name comes from their aspect as seen from the side, looking like a shield lying on the ground. This distinctive shape comes from the build-up of broad lava sheets which spread all around the magma chamber.

The most famous ones are in Hawaii, such as Kilauea and Mauna Loa, the largest volcano on Earth.
