Answer:

d. a hollow ball of cells in an embryo

Explanation:

Blastula is a stage during early embryo development which arrives between morula stage and gastrula stage. This stage is characterized by a hollow ball of cells which surround a cavity known as blastocoele. This layer of cells which surround the blastocoele is known as blastoderm and it is formed by the repeated cleavages of zygote (fertilized egg). This cavity inside blastoderm i.e.  blastocoel is filled with fluid. Soon after the blastula develops fully, it turns into a gastrula and the process is called as gastrulation.

Which of the following correctly uses the data to justify the claim that the phosphagen system is an immediate, short-term sourc
xz_007 [3.2K]

This question is incomplete, here is the complete question:

Muscle contraction depends on ATP hydrolysis. During periods of intense exercise, muscle cells rely on the ATP supplied by three metabolic pathways: glycolysis, mitochondrial respiration, and the phosphagen system. Figure 1 shows the rates at which the three metabolic pathways produce ATP following the start of an intense period of exercise.

Which of the following correctly uses the data to justify the claim that the phosphagen system is an immediate, short-term source of ATP for muscle cells?

The right option that correctly uses data to justify the claim that the phosphagen system is an immediate, short term source of ATP for muscle cells is the figure that indicates that ATP PRODUCTION BY THE PHOSPHAGEM SYSTEM INCREASES AND DECREASES RAPIDLY FOLLOWING THE START OF THE EXERCISE PERIOD.

The phosphagem system are systems of energy storing compounds that are located in the muscles and in the nervous systems of living organisms. The biochemical compounds that made up the phosphagem system are ATP, ADP and creatine phosphates (CP). These three compounds undergo continuous changes in a pathway called ATP - CP pathway.

ATP and CP serve as intermediate reserves of energy for the body. The phosphagem system is especially important in living organisms because its serves as a ready source of energy for muscles and nerves, which regularly experience energy changes.

The phospagem system is very important when it comes to physical exercise, because it is the fastest mean by which the muscles get the energy (ATP) they need. In the beginning of  exercise, there is always rapid fluctuations in the production of ATP as the phosphagem system produces ready energy for the exercising muscles. Energy from the phosphagem system can only be used for maximum of 10 seconds, thus, it is most important in exercises that requires instant burst of energy for a short period. The system works under anaerobic condition and last only for a few seconds.

Which statement about cell signaling is correct? Choose one: A. Each type of extracellular signal molecule induces the same resp
Lera25 [3.4K]

Answer:

D. Each receptor triggers one particular type of cell behavior, for example, activating gene expression.

Explanation:

  • Each extracellular signal molecule can induce different responses depending on the target cell.
  • Lipophilic receptors diffuse or carried across the cell's plasma membrane and bind to an intracellular receptor. For example steroid hormones are transported via carrier proteins.
  • Some signalling molecules only induce response from specific cells.
  • A single receptor can be activated by different signal molecules.

Match each organism with its phylum Pines Ephedra Palm-like plants Trees with fan-shaped leaves A. Gnetophyta B. Ginkgophyta C.
solong [7]

Answer:

Ginkgophyta

Explanation:

Gymnosperms are cone-bearing trees or Woody plants, which do not different greatly in their structure from the Woody angiosperms. Gymnosperms do not produce flowers but as seed plants that bear their seeds on scale-like leaves which are arranged spirally to form cones. The seeds are termed naked seeds because they are exposed to the air on the surfaces of the cone scales.

Gymnpsperms are grouped into four major divisions namely:

*Ginkgophyta

*Cycadophyta

*Corniferophyta

*Gnetophyta

1)DIVISION GINKGOPHYTA:The ginkgo tree cared maiden hair is the only surviving member of this division. It is found in the Orient(China and Japan) where it is cultivated as an ornamental tree because of the fan-like leaves. The leaves are *fan-shaped* with long petrioles.

2)DIVISION CYCADOPHYTA:The cycads abound in the tropics, mainly as ornamental plants. They are *palm tree-like* plants with a crowded crown of palm fronds. The leaves of Cuba's are deep green, waxy with large petioles.

DIVISION CONIFEROPHYTA:This is the largest group of Gymnosperms as it includes some of most economically exploited plants such as *pines* and Jupiter's. The pine tree is important as Christmas tree and conifers are generally important in the production of wood and paper

DIVISION GNETOPHYTA:This is the group of very unique Gymnosperms made up of three genera:Gnetum,*Ephedra* and Welwitschia.

Ephedra is a profusely branched shrub found in desert regions. It has whorl-like, scale-like, or needle -like leaves and jointed stem.

Hence, matching each with its phylum, we have:

Gingkophyta:Fan-shaped leaves

Cycadophyta-Palm-like leaves

Coniferophyta:Pine

Gnetophyta:Ephedra
