Hello!

In 1865, Abraham Lincoln created the Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands, also known as the Freedmen's Bureau. This Bureau was intended to last for one year after the end of the Civil War and its main objective was to assist freed slaves in the South. Bureau agents taught African Americans to read and write, they helped them to return to work and solve employment issues as well as family issues.
