How did the U.S. and the Soviet Union attempt to limit the possibility of global nuclear destruction?

History

The US and Soviet Union attempted to limit the possibility of global nuclear destruction by agreeing to treaties.

A perfect example of this would be the Cuban Missile Crisis. After finding Soviet missiles located in Cuba, the US was considered invading/attacking Cuba. However, president John F. Kennedy and Nikkita Khruschev were able to find a peaceful solution after thirteen tense days of negotiations. This resulted in the removal of Soviet missiles in Cuba and the removal of US missiles in Turkey.

Other treaties, like the Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty (SALT), also helped in reducing the possiblity of an all out nuclear war between the US and Soviet Union.

Why do you think hitler and stalin signed a non- aggression pact (6 sentences)
o-na [289]

Hitler proposed the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact so that his eastern border was secured and he could focus all of his efforts on war with the allied powers. Stalin was interested as it gave him more territory with the terms of the Pact. They would both invade Poland and split it between the two countries. Hitler also wanted this Pact so then later he can attack the soviets while they least expected in a famous operation called "Operation Barbarossa".
