Answer: A )to illustrate Japan’s isolation in the 1800s

The author starts the paragraph by telling us that Japan was isolated during the 1800s. He goes on to introduce an outside source (Stephen Sondheim's musical tableau) as a way to back up this assertion. Although this might seem unnecessary, his reason for including it is to illustrate Japan's isolation during this time period. The source shows how other countries thought about Japan's situation, and it provides evidence for the author's claim.

In the story, pet owners are too scared of crocodile to bring their sick pets to Dr. Doolittle. When sweet T read this, he made
Alexxandr [17]

Answer:

The background knowledge that when he was treating humans and kept pets, people stopped coming to him for treatment and he became poor.

Explanation:

While reading the story, Sweet T must have read of the time when Doctor Dolittle was treating humans and kept a lot of pets. People did not like the animals and they soon stopped coming to him for treatments. He began losing money and soon became very poor.

This background knowledge would help Sweet T make the inference that since pet owners were scared of bringing their sick pets to Dr. Dolittle, he would be losing money and would soon become poor again.

The designer dressed them in black and teal costumes . Determine the case and function of the underlined pronoun
malfutka [58]

Even though you didn't underline anything, there is only one pronoun in this sentence - the word them.

The case of this pronoun is objective - it functions as an object in the sentence. It is really easy to determine this - all you have to do is ask the questions <em>whom </em>or <em>what. Whom did the designer dress in black and teal costumes? </em>And the answer is - <em>Them. </em>

This way you know that the pronoun is also the object; to be more specific, it is a direct object.

Therefore, the correct answers are case: objective; function: direct object.

" All of us, our family and the Chinese guests, stopped eating to watch the activities of the Gleasons. I wanted to giggle. Then
Alecsey [184]

Answer:

The part of the plot that is revealed in this excerpt is:

C) a resolution in which the Lins have become the hosts.

Explanation:

The excerpt we are analyzing here belongs to the short story "The All-American Slurp", by Lensey Namioka. <u>The narrator is a girl from the Lin family, from China.</u> The Lins have moved to the U.S. and are struggling to adjust themselves to the completely different culture they now find themselves immersed in. <u>They are invited to dine at the Gleasons', but their Chinese eating etiquette is perceived as rude by the American characters. The narrator is embarrassed at this moment as well as others, seeing her family as inadequate. </u>

<u>However, once the Gleasons become the guests and the Lins become the hosts, we are presented with a resolution to that conflict. The narrator realizes her family is not inadequate.</u><u> Now, the Gleasons are the ones struggling to eat the Chinese meal. That does not make them inferior, the same way the Lins are also not inferior in any manner. They simply come from different backgrounds, having distinct habits and behaviors.</u>

What are some examples of literary realism in the poem, "George Gray" by Edgar lee masters?
Marina86 [1]

Answer:

In the poem "George Gray" you can see an opposition to romanticism.

Explanation:

If we analyze it, realism was an opposition to romanticism. It focused more on reality, scenes from everyday life and provided many details of it. Anything related to romanticism was rejected by this movement.

In this poem we have some examples of that.

For example:

  • When the author uses the phrase "For love was offered me and I shrank from its disillusionment", he wants to get away from love because he has suffered, this is an opposition to romanticism.
  • Another example is when the author provides details of his boat: "A boat with a furled sail at rest in a harbor." This is a description of something real with details and specific.
