I'm doing this right now too :)

You start by writing the original numbers given into a proportion, which would be

miles
_____

hours

Then you have to convert the top unit, miles, into feet. You have to use the rate 1mile:5280 feet. You write that as a proportion too.

miles        1
_____ =  ___

hours      5280

Next, you have to add a conversion rate for changing the hours into seconds. You'd use the rate 1 hour: 60 seconds.

miles        1          60
_____ =  ___  =  ____
hour        5280      1

Then you'd cross multiply to solve.

HOTS Question:<br>Solve: 2xy /x+y = 3/2, x+y≠0 and xy / 2x-y = -3 / 10, 2x-y≠0

x = \frac{1}{2} and y =  -  \frac{3}{2}

Step-by-step explanation:

\frac{2x}{x + y} =  \frac{3}{2}

=  > \frac{x + y}{xy} =  \frac{4}{3}

=  >  \frac{1}{x} +  \frac{1}{y} =  \frac{4}{3}---- Eq. 1

Then,

\frac{xy}{2x - y} =  -  \frac{3}{10}

=  >  \frac{2x - y}{xy} =  -  \frac{10}{3}

=  >  -  \frac{1}{x} +  \frac{2}{y} =  -  \frac{10}{3}-- Eq. 2

Let

\frac{1}{x} = uand

\frac{1}{y} = v.

Then, from Eq. 1 & 2, we get:

u + v =  \frac{4}{3} and

- u + 2v =  -  \frac{10}{3}

=  > 3u + 3v = 4and

- 3u + 6v=  - 10

By adding, we get,

9v =  - 6

=  > v =  \frac{ - 6}{9}

=  > v =  -  \frac{2}{3}

Substituting "y" got above in Eq.1, we get,

\frac{1}{x} -  \frac{2}{3} =  \frac{4}{3}

=  >  \frac{1}{x} =  \frac{6}{3} = 2

=  > x = 2

Hence,

x =  \frac{1}{2}

=  > y =  -  \frac{3}{2}

Find the range of allowable values based on a measure of 130 inches if the values can vary by 1.4%.
olganol [36]

Answer:

130 ± 1.82 inches i.e the range of the values is 128.18 inches to 131.82 inches.

Step-by-step explanation:

The range of values required here implies the values fall between the least and maximum values.

Since the values can vary by 1.4%, the range can be determined by:

1.4% of 130 = \frac{1.4}{100} x 130

                  = 0.014 x 130

                  = 1.82

The addition or subtraction of 1.82 to/from 130 inches gives the required range.

i.e the range of allowable values = 130 ± 1.82 inches.

Thus,

130 - 1.82 = 128.18 inches

130 + 1.82 = 131.82 inches

The values falls between 128.18 inches to 131.82 inches.
