Due to the influence of Confucian ideals, S. Korean culture places great importance in showing humility and respect to elders or people with higher titles. Respect and humility are evident and expressed on a daily basis through a variety of ways including head bows, hand gestures and social etiquette.
It has its unique one culture, character, cloth, and food that separate from the countries nearby Korea. Diligent and hard work, filial piety, and humbleness are characteristics respected by Koreans. They are proud of their unique traditional culture and their economic success within short period of time.
South Korea's terrain is mostly mountainous, most of which is not arable. Lowlands, located primarily in the west and southeast, make up only 30% of the total land area. About three thousand islands, mostly small and uninhabited, lie off the western and southern coasts of South Korea.
