compelling speeches

An epic poem is about a hero's journey. In the epic the hero and his accomplishments are described in detail with elevated language. The hero often gives speeches to inspire others. Since the hero's journey is a story of the hero's trials, it is written in a narrative voice.

Further Explanation:

The primary feature of an epic is that it narrates the details of the adventures and journeys of a particular hero. The epic is much longer than a poem or prose, and it traverses several countries throughout its narrative. The narration is done by a third narrator, who gives the reader both a first perspective and allows them to develop their own thoughts on the narrative. Apart from the hero, there are several other characters, who are interconnected with the protagonist, but their character development throughout the epic is independent of that of the protagonist. Each character has a specific role to play within the narrative, thereby contributing to its development. The narrator also uses a number of literary devices to place emphasis on the journeys of the protagonist and to elevate them before the audience. The main objective of the epic is often to solidify the mythical status of the protagonist in the minds of the audience.

An epic has several characteristics. The most important being the characteristics of a protagonist, who shall have adventures that are nearly deadly and extremely challenging. The protagonist shall also be endowed with supernatural powers, or have mythical origins. The protagonist might also have the blessings of the supernatural God showered on him or her, which will help in their conquests. Thus, the legendary character of the protagonist makes the central element of the epic. The protagonist shall be a commoner, or be of noble birth, and shall have divine protection on them. The plot of the epic is vast and expansive, as numerous supernatural elements are present within them. Also, the narrator needs to explore all sides of the characters and share various perspectives with the audience.

Important point: My room mate has contributed to the mess within the apartment, but has not completed their half of the chores. I want to ask them politely to help out more.

Message: "Hey! I was doing my chores the other day and I noticed you haven't finished yours. I don't mean to bother you, but the apartment's starting to stink like trash (simile) and the dish pile up is a natural disaster waiting to happen (metaphor). Do you think you could handle that soon? Do you think you're too busy and may need more time (repetition/anaphora)? I would do it myself, but I have a lot on my plate and I'd hate to be late (rhyme) to work".

In my answer I used two examples of figurative language (metaphor and simile) and two sound devices (rhyme and repetition). I hope this helps! Please rate my answer according to how useful it was to you :)
