The responsibility of the Federal Reserve is to conduct <u>the monetary policy in the United States</u>, with the aim of ensuring economic growth, growing employment levels and price stability.  This latter price objective is the most important one pursued by the Federal Reserve, as the have to keep under control the US dollar's money supply in order to prevent inflationary and deflationary tendencies that produce great damage in an economy.
