Nazis transported prisoners by train. in cattle cars. No windows, no seats. They were standing up, by dozens., hardly breathing.. Men, women, child, babies, old persons , all together.. Most of them were dying before arriving. They had to stay with the dead persons till the end. No toilets, no nothing. Like animals, as they were considered by the nazis.
The author was clearly using sarcasm. i know this cause in the question it says only and compares it to a different planet, and we know planets are not a mile close
