Chief Joseph(1840-1904), was a Nez Perce Indian warrior from the Oregon Territory. In 1887, he opposed moving his tribe to a reservation as demanded by the United States government. Finally, he reluctantly agreed. But there was this incident where white settlers died and the tribe was blamed. What Chief Joseph did was to lead his people to Canada. But close to the Canada border he surrendered to the Army. After this Nez Perce tribe were sent to prison in Kansas but shortly after they were moved to a reservation.
