This antibiotic is taken in as drugs to boost or help the immune system in the fighting process against bacterial infections. However, some bacterial species seem unresponsive to these antibiotics. This phenomenon is called antibiotic-resistance.

Changes may occur in the genetic sequence of bacteria that leads to antibiotic-resistance. These changes called MUTATION can be one that adds specific nucleotides to the genetic sequence of the bacteria, hereby, conferring resistance to certain antibiotics upon it.

Since the change (mutation) emanates from the gene of the bacteria, this specific resistant abilities will be transferred to their offsprings when they reproduce. This will cause an increased number of antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria, posing further problems.
