For this problem, we can set up a system of inequalities. It takes 45 minutes to do 12 math problems, so we can set up a fraction as 45/12.

The ratio of minutes to problems doesn't change, so we can set this fraction as equal to what we are searching for. We are looking for the time it takes to do 20 problems, so we can put x over 20 to find the number of problems completed.

Now we can set up the equation.
45/12=x/20

We have the equation, so we just have to solve for x to find the time required to do 20 math problems.
45/12=x/20
20(45/12)=x
x=75 minutes

It takes 75 minutes to complete 20 math problems.

On a town map, each unit of the coordinate plane represents 1 mile. Three branches of a bank are located at A(−3, 1), B(1, 3), a
WARRIOR [948]
From A to B...
distance formula : sqrt ((x2 - x1)^2 + (y2 - y1)^2
(-3,1)....x1 = -3 and y1 = 1
(1,3)....x2 = 1 and y2 = 3
sub
d = sqrt ((1 - (-3)^2 + (3 - 1)^2
d = sqrt ((1 + 3)^2 + 2^2
d = sqrt (4^2 + 2^2)
d = sqrt (16 + 4)
d = sqrt 20
d = 4.47 miles...so from A to B, it was 4.47 miles

from B to C
d = sqrt ((x2 - x1)^2 + (y2 - y1)^2
(1,3)....x1 = 1 and y1 = 3
(5,-1)...x2 = 5 and y2 = 1
sub
d = sqrt ((5 - 1)^2 + (-1 - 3)^2
d = sqrt ((4^2 + (-4^2)
d = sqrt (16 + 16)
d = sqrt 32
d = 5.66......but keep in mind, he only drove half-way...so 5.66/2 = 2.83 miles

for a total of : 4.47 + 2.83 = 7.3 miles <===

A distribution of grades in a course where A=4, B=3, etc.
xenn [34]

Answer:

a. P(x= at least 2)= 1- P(no pass)= 1- 0.27= 0.73

b. 0.55

c. Expected Value = mean = 2.35 which is more than C grade that is grade B

d. variance= 1.5675

standard deviation =1.252

e. Their grade would be from (73- 100)

or 3 as it has the highest probability

Step-by-step explanation:

                       X      P(X)          X .P(X)         X²     X².P(X)

                        0       0.1                 0            0           0

                         1        0.17             0.17         1           0.17

                        2       0.21             0.42         4         0.84

                        3       0.32            0.96          9         2.88

                          4       0.2               0.8           16       3.2

∑                     10          1                   2.35         30     7.09

Let X represent an event that the student has passed with at least a 2.

The probability of not passing (or below 2) is 0.1+ 0.17= 0.27

Then using law of complementation

a.  P(x= at least 2)= 1- P(no pass)= 1- 0.27= 0.73

b. Let Y represent the event that a student has an A (4) given that he has passed the class with at least a C (2)

P(x)= 0.73

P(A)= 0.4

P(Y)= P(A)/P(X)= 0.4/0.73=0.55

c. Expected value= mean = 2.35 which is greater than C , Hence grade B

First we find the mean ∑X.P(X)= 2.35

d. Variance =  ∑X².P(X)   -  (∑X.P(X)²= 7.09- (2.35)² = 7.09- 5.5225=1.5675

Standard Deviation = square root of Variance = √1.5675= 1.252

e. P(all pass) = P(A) +P(B) +P(C)= 0.2+ 0.32+ 0.21= 0.73

Can someone help me make sense of the problem. Provide an explanation and answer if at all possible
Verizon [17]

Answer:

  1.728×10¹⁵

Step-by-step explanation:

You may recall from 3rd grade that multiplying by 10 adds a zero to the right of a number (moves the decimal point 1 place to the right).

An exponent is used to signify repeated multiplication. These facts together are used to translate to/from scientific notation.

  10 = 1 × 10

  100 = 1 × 10 × 10 = 1 × 10²

__

Continuing in like fashion, 5.4×10⁸ represents 5.4 × (1 followed by 8 zeros).

Similarly, 3.2×10⁶ = 3.2 × (1 followed by 6 zeros)

The product will be ...

  (5.4×10⁸)×(3.2×10⁶) = (5.4×3.2) × (1 followed by 8+6 = 14 zeros)

  = 17.28 × 10¹⁴

  = (1.728 × 10) × 10¹⁴ . . . moving the decimal point so there's 1 digit to its left

Adding that extra zero into the count we already have, this becomes ...

  = 1.728×10¹⁵

_____

Additional comment

Your scientific or graphing calculator will have a mode for showing numbers in scientific notation. You can enter these numbers directly into your calculator and have it show you the result in scientific notation.

Or, you can use a spreadsheet with appropriate output cell formatting.
