No problem! Lemme explain :D
Okie so it's spelled, "simile", and often thought as "smile" xD
But so a simile is when you compare two things using the words "like" or "as". A metaphor is when you compare two things WITHOUT using "like" or "as".
Example;
Simile: "You are AS beautiful AS the northern lights."
Metaphor: "You dazzled the crowd because you are our shooting star."

I'll start you off with some examples:
Simile: "Her eyes were like small galaxies, enchanting in themselves"
Metaphor: "Her eyes were small galaxies, enchanting in themselves"
See the difference?
All similes are metaphors, but not all metaphors are similes. Like that rectangle thing. A metaphor is a comparison, and a simile is a type of metaphor that uses "like" or "as" to compare things.

Which statement best explains seared in the flames of withering injustice as it is used in the second paragraph
telo118 [61]
This is most evidently a metaphor.  The thing to keep in mind when analyzing literature/poetry is that if you see figurative language making comparisons/drawing parallels between two differing things--instances where the meaning is not literal such as how injustice is not really a fire and has no flames--it's a safe bet you'll have on your hands a metaphor.
